Our visit from day to day
We arrived in West-Yellowstone on June 3th after a three day trip that started in Antwerp in the afternoon of June 1st, 2014. We rented a car, 'TIP' (Trouble in Paradise), in Salt Lake City and drove from there all the way up through Utah and Idaho.
After a lazy morning, we set out at 3pm for a first visit to the park. We visited the Old Faithful geyser basin and on a little extra tour around met our first two herds of bison.
The second day, we got up very early, like the real pros, and headed for Lamar valley in the norteast of the park. We spotted several herds of bison in the Yellowstone riverbed, we saw waterfalls, elk families, a couple of bighorn sheep and several pronghorn deer. We visited the small town of Mammoth and started out on a trail to Beaver lake. We were still too tired to finish the trail (and bears were spotted on the track!), so we took the car to the Norris geyser basin, a quite different setting from the Old Faithful basin.
On the third day, we visited the Prismatic spring, then drove on to Yellowstone lake, Hayden valley and the Yellowstone Canyon with the Upper and Lower falls. A world marvel!
We drove south again along Lewis river to Grand Teton National Park. Our second sleeping place on this trip is a beautiful log cabin at Togwotee, east of the Grand Teton park, in the direction of Dubois.
The next day, we made a walk at the feet of the Tetons, near the Jenny and Leigh lakes.
At night, it snowed at our high location, but in the morning the sun was back at full force. We make another walk at the Laurance Rockefeller Preserve to Phelps lake.
We were sad because we had to leave this beautiful region so soon. The next morning we drove to Jackson Hole, a town with old west allure, then all the way south to Salt Lake City...
Newsletters we sent home
to our friends during our visit
Whenever we travel to some far-away country, we send newsletters home
as frequently as we find the time and the place to do so.
In the past, only Touché sent news to friends in Portuguese, then Guy made a quick Dutch translation for friends in Belgium, but now we write our newsletters independently and only read one another's texts afterwards, often showing a different focus on things... quite enriching for the both of us!
