The Red Towers of the Alcazaba are the oldest part of the Alhambra. This place already bore constructions before the arrival of the muslims. In the 9th century Sawwar ben Hamdun built a fort here during the fights between Arabs and Muwalladins (Christians converted to Islam).

Muhammad I developed the Alcazaba into a real fortress, that was used as a residence (also by Muhammad II) until the Nasrid Palace was finished. After that time, the Alcazaba was only used as a fortress.

As torres vermelhas da Alcazaba são a parte mais antiga da Alhambra. Neste local já haviam constrções antes mesmo da chegada dos muçulmanos. No sec. IX Sawwar ben Hamdun construiu no local um forte durante as lutas entre os árabes e os muwalladins (cristãos convertidos ao Islamismo).

Mohammed I transformou a Alcazaba num verdadeiro forte que foi usado como residência de Mohammed II, até que o Palácio dos Nazarides ficasse pronto. Depois disso, a Alcazaba passou a ser utilizado somente como forte.

De rode torens van het Alcazaba zijn het oudste deel van het Alhambra. Hier stonden al gebouwen vóór de komst van de moslims. In de 9e eeuw bouwde Sawwar ben Hamdun hier een fort gedurende de gevechten tussen Arabieren en muwalladins (tot de islam bekeerde christenen).

Mohammed I bouwde het Alcazaba uit tot een echte vesting die ook nog door Mohammed II als residentie gebruikt werd, tot het Nazaridenpaleis klaar was. Daarna werd het Alcazaba enkel nog als fort gebruikt.
